Friends to Children with Cancer
A Look at 2007
2007 was a very busy year for the Friends of Scott Foundation (FSF) and we want to thank every one of our generous donors and volunteers who give us the ability to serve our children and their families. Through your generosity we can continue with our mission to ensure children and their families receive emotional, educational, and financial support as they cope with cancer.
March 30 – The first Prom ever in San Diego
Teens where invited to attend a night away from cancer:a prom at the San Diego Hall of Champions. The kids arrived by limousine and were treated to a red carpet entrance.
The evening was unforgettable. They posed for pictures, danced and mingled, and for one night at least they had a chance at normalcy.
May 10 – Mother's Day
Moms were given a little break.
Moms were treated to dinner, friendship, and a day just to themselves.
July 29 – A day at the Del Mar Races
FSF and The Del Mar Thoroughbred race track sponsored a Day at The Races for children undergoing cancer treatment.
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club partnered with FSF to provide a special day for our children and their families.
155 children and their families enjoyed a day of activities, games, entertainment, BBQ lunch, and a chance to see jockeys and their horses in action.
October 29, 2007 – New this year!
Leche y Café – a weekly program at Rady Children's Hospital
Pastries, coffee and warm friendship is provided. FSF offers this program in an
effort to provide moms and dads with a "coffee break" a chance to relax and enjoy
a few moments away from their daily hectic schedule. Parents can have fun, listen
to music, create an arts and crafts and enjoy bilingual books and magazines in Spanish.
November 18, 2007 - FSF 3rd Annual "Light Up the Holiday for Hope" Dinner
This is an annual fundraiser and another avenue to raise public awareness about childhood cancer. Each year the children decorate ornaments which are available for all guests to take home for a donation made to the Friends of Scott Foundation. This year's event was held at Po Pazzo's Busalacchi Family Restaurant. This was a very special night. Dr. Roberts - Director of Hematology / Oncology at Rady Children's Hospital was honoree for the evening and Our Community Leadership Honoree was Jimmy Van Norman. The highlight of the evening was the children's choir under the direction of our volunteer Lisa Henderson-Solis.
December 15 – Christmas Posada, our annual Christmas party
This year we celebrated with Mariachis, Ballet, Folkloric Dancers, Toys, a great lunch, and of course the time spent with our guests The San Diego Chargers. The kids enjoyed hugs, photos, and autographs from all the players. Thanks to Channel 10 News and Azteca America for providing all the toys for this years Christmas Party.
Our children also enjoyed singing along with one of our local City of San Diego Councilmember's Ben Hueso and City of San Diego Retired Chief of Police David Bejarano.
December - 5th Annual Pajama Drive
FSF continues with their holiday tradition of distributing warm and fuzzy pajamas at Rady Children's Hospital and at our annual Christmas Posada Party to children with cancer and their siblings. This was our 5th annual pajama drive which has now extended to Orange and Riverside Counties' and Tijuana B.C., Mexico.
Programs and Services
FSF continues to provide gas, grocery, and phone cards, as well as our family educational
support kits, in addition to sponsoring such activities as a Spa Day for a mom
and daughter during treatment at Rady Children's Hospital.
And such activities to San Diego Sport Events like "Shoot for the Cure" with the San Diego Chargers.
Our Ready 2 Read / Listos para Leer Program
