Friends to Children with Cancer

A note from Carmen...

It's May...

Spring is here and flowers are emerging and I am turning a year older. There are many celebrations this month: Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, and of course, Mother's Day. I became a mother 24 years ago and that added even more meaning to my life. I like to look back at old photos, cards, and precious gifts made for me by my boys when they were younger. As I reflect back on those days and remember how much I enjoy being a mother. These are the times my eldest son Eric recalls as the "good times." Have "Good Times" this Sunday dear mothers – enjoy your day!!

Happy Mother's Day

On March 29th, 2008 Friends of Scott hosted its 2nd Annual Prom for kids with cancer. This year's theme was a Night at the Oscars.

Prom Sign

Nearly 200 area children were escorted by limos onto the red carpet where snapping paparazzi awaited. Two towering Oscar statues stood at the entrance of the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park, setting the scene for what would become a magical and unforgettable evening. After being treated to dinner and dessert, the children hit the dance floor and rarely stopped to rest! They lead each other in the conga line and faced off in dance contests. For one night, these children replaced hospital gowns with suits & dresses. They replaced IV's with jewelry. They forgot about their next chemotherapy appointment and test results. For this one night, they were able to be kids. The smiles and laughs captured on tape are also forever impressed on everyone's heart. Friends of Scott looks forward to doing it again in 2009.

Día Del Niño – Kid's Day Carnival

Dia Del Nino

Día del Niño – Kid's Day – was celebrated on Wednesday April 30th at Rady's Children Hospital in the Starlight Playroom.

Día del Niño, a tradition in Mexico and other Latin American countries, is a day that celebrates and honors the children. This special day of feeling joy and happiness for the children in our lives included fun arts and crafts, great music, interactive storytelling, pizza and a goodie bag for each child. The kids enjoyed it all very much. It was such a success that we are already looking forward next year's celebration! Thank you to all of the Friends of Scott Foundation volunteers!

Volunteering

Dia Del Nino

Year after year, volunteers have been integral to the success of the Foundation. Without their support, our most cherished events such as Prom Night and our Ready to Read literacy program, would not be possible. The Foundation is a 100% volunteer–led effort, which means we are always looking for enthusiastic and caring volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Carmen Delgadillo for more information about the Friends of Scott Foundation at (619) 993-2917.
